Adoption Counselor

Seeking a professional dedicated to animal welfare that enjoys variety and flexibility in a job. Must have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, strong customer service and counseling skills. Must be a team player and work well with others, as well as be able to work independently. Must be able to work in and enjoy a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of animal care and behavior is required. Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work nights and weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualify and counsel potential adopters applying to adopt cats, dogs and small companion animals.
Conduct behavior evaluations on dogs to determine adoptability.
Work with animals that may need additional assessment and/or behavior modification.
Conduct pre-adoption consultations with potential dog adopters and follow-up support.
Develop and present training to shelter staff/volunteers on a variety of animal-related subjects.
Respond to Behavior Helpline emails from pet owners seeking advice.
Coordinate spay/neuter of shelter animals.
Create promotional materials for local businesses or shelter events to advertise adoptable animals.
Coordinate and attend events to promote AWLA & our animals.
Develop creative, new ideas to promote adoption of shelter animals.
Manage, stock and organize retail section.
Work assigned hours at the front desk interacting with the public on a variety of levels.
Update and maintain adoption handouts and materials.
Administrative tasks including copying and re-stocking front desk materials, filing contracts, making adoption folders, and data entry.
