Learn what it takes to care for animals at AWLA!
AWLA hosts both virtual and in-person tours for groups of all ages. Tours of our shelter are exciting educational opportunities for groups like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H Clubs, and more! You’ll meet adoptable animals, shelter staff, and get a behind-the-scenes look at our facility.
Based on group size, tours last between 40 minutes to 1 hour, and can be tailored with lessons based on your group’s education level – whether school-aged kids or adults. Tours are offered Monday through Thursday between 1:00pm – 6:00pm. Tours of AWLA are most appropriate for children ages 5 and older.
The reservation fee to schedule a tour is $75. Due to size constraints in some of our areas, tours are limited to 12 participants including adults.

Scout Programs
AWLA offers programs to Scout troops of all ages (most suitable ages 5 and older)! Our Scout Programs are one hour long and involve lessons, activities, and animal interactions that satisfy the requirements for the Brownie Pet Badge. There is a $10 fee for each badge-seeking Scout, with a minimum reservation fee of $100 per troop. If cost is a financial barrier, scholarships are available.
This program covers the Brownie Pet Badge requirements, including learning about the care different pets need, how to keep pets comfortable, ensuring pets stay healthy and safe, making pets feel loved, and feeding them. Badge requirements will be met through short activities and lessons for each topic. The program can be tailored for older Scouts as well. If your troop has any specific presentation requests, please let us know. At the end of the program, each Scout will receive an AWLA badge, upon the troop leader's request.
On-site programs are limited to Monday-Thursday, 1pm-6pm. For off-site availability, contact mradford@awla.org.
