Happy New Year!We are grateful for your generous support in 2023. Thanks to you, AWLA has been able to serve pets and pet families in our community for the last 80 years. We look forward to celebrating this achievement, and all
that the future holds, with you throughout 2024.
Rocky Update
A few weeks ago we introduced you to Rocky, a little dog with a big heart problem. He urgently needed heart surgery to fix his heart and save his life. We are delighted to report that Rocky's heart surgery was successful! He'll need to go to a cardiologist in a few months for a re-check, but the vet team at Virginia Tech School of Veterinary Medicine has given him a good prognosis for the future!
We are so grateful to the team at Virginia Tech for performing the surgery and all of YOU for donating to help save pets like Rocky!
AWLA is fortunate to have dedicated and compassionate volunteers, who go above and beyond for the animals both in our care and in our community.
On December 16, Volunteers delivered 131 pet care packages to 80 families throughout Arlington county just in time for the holidays.
Below are notes from package recipients. We hope they warm your heart like they did ours!
"Hello, this program has been very helpful in the nutrition of our kittens (Teddy and Misty) they enjoy their toys a lot and stay strong and healthy."
"Radar wanted to give you a heartfelt THANK YOU for the AWLA ELF who delivered prezzies to Culpepper Garden’s four-legged residents!! He also wanted to send you this selfie he took with “Smilie” (the name Radar gave him [new toy] bc of his big pearly whites!)

Bruno and Boo are a pair of friendly young rats who want nothing more than to cuddle and play all day long. They are hand tame and come running when they see people. They like snuggling up together under a pile of blankets and napping in
hammocks. When they're feeling more active, they love to wrestle with each other and enjoy treats like cheerios and grapes.
